You can’t go home again

We made this shortreal for TechCrunch about the San Francisco housing shortage, evictions, the tech industry, and income inequality. We quickly found that there are no villains in this tale. Each character has a piece of the truth and also a certain lack of understanding. What initially looked like a simple and specific story—wealthy new tenants driving out poorer old ones—turned out to be much more complicated and general: a snapshot of the changing American City. We’ve shown this film to residents from LA, New York, Washington, D.C. and Chicago. They all say the same thing: that’s going on in my neighborhood too.
